The Kim Chŏng-tae Electric Locomotive Works or Kim Jong-tae Locomotive Works in P'yŏngyang is North Korea's primary—possibly only—manufacturer of railway motive power.〔Hayato, Kokubu, 将軍様の鉄道 (Shōgun-sama no Tetsudō), ISBN 978-4-10-303731-6〕 North Korea produced its first electric locomotives in the 1960s. One of the first models, manufactured in 1968, participated in the restoration of the inter-Korean rail link, for the first time in 57 years, on 17 May 2007.〔http://english.donga.com/srv/service.php3?biid=2007051895698〕 Located in the Seosong district of Pyongyang, the factory bears the name of Kim Jong-tae, a South Korean activist executed in 1969 for belonging to the Revolutionary Party for Reunification. The company, originally called "Kim Jong-tae Economic Power Complex", was renamed under its current name after being restructured in late 1999 and early 2000, as did 40 other major North Korean groups. Following a visit of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il on 5 January 2002, the plant produced a new range of electric locomotives.〔http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/library/news/dprk/2003/dprk-030523-0529_mou.htm〕 ==Electric locomotives== They have manufactured several electric locomotive types, such as the Red Flag 1 and Mangyongdae classes, the Red Flag 2 class articulated locomotive and, most recently, the Songun Red Flag class with asynchronous motors.〔http://www.naenara.com.kp/en/periodic/times/index.php?contents+13089+2011-01-03+502+9〕
